COVID-19: Resuming In-Person Worship Services Phase 2 FAQs

If you have questions not addressed here, please call the Church Office or email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

What is the current policy regarding masks and social distancing for worship services?

About a year ago, we resumed in-person worship services with extensive restrictions in order to love our neighbors and honor our community leaders. Beginning Sunday, June 6, we will no longer be asking people to wear masks or social distance at Southwood. This change comes as a result of local and CDC guidance for places of worship, specifically toward vaccinated individuals.

Can I continue to wear a face covering if I desire to do so?

Absolutely. Our Host Team and Children’s Ministry volunteers and staff (including nursery) will wear masks at least a little bit longer. We understand many have particular concerns for themselves and/or others, and many in our community are not vaccinated. We all should be mindful of continued love and respect for one another.

What else is changing from the precautions in place for the past year?

The other most noticeable change will be that the pew ropes will be removed to allow seating in every row. Bibles have returned to the pew backs for your use during the service. Self-service coffee and mints will also be available.

What do I do if I prefer more distance around me during the worship service?

Please notify the ushers of your preference as you enter the sanctuary. They will help you find a comfortable seat in the sanctuary or even in the Connecting Spaces with the livestreamed service, if you prefer. We will continue to live stream the services for those not able to attend in person, and some other limitations on passing items (pew pads, offering plate) will continue.

What arrangements are there for the Lord’s Supper?

On Sundays when we celebrate the Lord’s Supper, our elders will continue wearing masks and serving the bread to each person for the time being. Pre-packaged elements will also remain available, but there will be no more drive-up Lord’s Supper following the worship service.

Do these changes apply beyond the worship service?

Yes. While there are still some precautions we are taking in our Connect Community classrooms and other ministry events for adults, youth, and kids, we are no longer asking all participants to wear masks in those contexts either.
