Summer with Southwood Kids!

Summer with Southwood Kids!

Some of my fondest memories growing up come from summer time as a child.  Growing up on the East coast of South Florida has it’s summer advantages.  There were many an evening we would picnic at the beach and play frisbee as the sun went down.  Inviting friends was often a part of such outings.  Whether at the beach, on the ball field, the recreation center, fishing the canals or just goofing around with other kids on the block, friends were always a part of what I was about.

My guess is that it is not all that different with your children.  Perhaps they are the ones driving the friend connections trying to maximize “friend time” during every moment they can during the summer.  Or maybe you (the parents) are driving the need to have your children connect with their friends more now that school is out.  Whatever is driving the friend connections with your children, Southwood Kids! has a summer schedule that your children will enjoy but also enjoy inviting their friends to (they might need your help with that).  This summer provides a number of occasions for your child to invite friends to events in which they can be introduced to their other “church friends,” but also fun programs in which they can hear about the God who made them and His love for them in Christ.

Whether it is Sunday mornings, VBS, CLIMB or any of our summer events ... mark your calendars and share the fun and spiritual impact with the kids your children are already going to be hanging out with this summer anyway!

(PreK-4th Grade completed)
June 11-14 (Mon-Thu) from 9am-12pm is this summer’s Vacation Bible School called Sky .  Sky will actually begin with a kick-off during the Sunday School hour on June 10.  Sky is for children who are PreK (4 years old by Feb 1, 2012) through 4th grade completed.  Register at southwood.org/vbs.  Registration closes to Southwood members and regular attenders May 30.  Your guests can be registered through June 11.

(5th & 6th Grade completed)
June 11-14 (Mon-Thu) from 9am-12pm is CLIMB for 5th/6th grade completed students.  CLIMB will actually begin with a kick-off during the Sunday School hour on June 10.  This week of service will put feet to faith as students get dirty, sweaty and serve in environments of fellowship and discipleship within the community.  Register at southwood.org/climb.  Registration closes to Southwood members and regular attenders May 30.  Your guests can be registered through June 11.

(Grades 1-4 completed)
Each Sunday from June 17 through Aug 5, grades 1-4 completed will combine during summer Sunday School for Metamorphosis, an exciting hour each week in which kids will focus on the book of Proverbs while learning about the transformation or ”metamorphosis” described in Romans 12:2—presented by the Insect-Inside Theatre Company.  No registration required.

(PreK/K completed)
June 17 - Aug 5 is JUMP! our summer Sunday School for PreK/K completed.  Jump! focuses on the verse from Luke 10:27—”Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and all your mind… AND love your neighbor as yourself.”

Through a castle-themed environment with  a court jester, princesses and  a lively green frog named Sir Jumps-A-Lot, kids will learn Bible stories about David, Daniel, Esther, the Good Samaritan and what it means to LOVE and SERVE God.  No registration required.

Summer Events

(PreK-6th grade completed)
Once school is out, fun is just around the corner with different events for kids PreK - 6th grade completed.  Remember not to hog all the fun for yourself; these are great opportunities to invite friends who are not part of Southwood.  From water play days to capture the flag to movie night, there is something for everybody; great fun for Southwood kids and easy to invite friends to.  For a list of events and sign-up ( where needed), please visit southwood.org/kids

KidsWorship will take a break starting June 3 and be back again August 12th for the new school year.

Move-Up (Promotion) Sunday

On August 12, children will move up to their next grade.  If you know your child will be repeating a grade this fall, please let us know by sending an email to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
