What is Operation Christmas Child? This ministry of Samaritan’s Purse (led by Franklin Graham) partners with churches all over the US to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to needy children around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.  How is this done?  —with shoe box gifts that YOU provide to children around the world who might otherwise never open a present at Christmas much less know the Christ of Christmas.

Over the past 16 years, Operation Christmas Child has delivered shoe box gifts to children in 95 war torn and poverty stricken countries.  Last year alone, 8 million shoe boxes were shipped all over the world.

This year, Southwood is making available 1,200 empty plastic shoe boxes to be picked up, filled and returned for children worldwide.  Sunday, October 31 is our kickoff for Operation Christmas Child with boxes stacked up in the narthex for you to take after each worship service.

What can you do?

TAKE A BOX
(or as many as you can fill) on Sunday, Oct 31 from the narthex after each worship service or at the Christmas Tree next to the Southwood Nursery on Nov 7 or from the church office during the week.

FILL A BOX
according to the instructions in the brochure included with your box.

BRING IT BACK
to Southwood and place in the front of the sanctuary on Nov 7 & 14 or to Southwood during the week and drop off in the office.

It is just that easy.  The power of a simple shoe box filled with small toys, hard candy, school supplies, personal hygiene items, etc not only brings a smile of joy to a child’s face but also can be the first exposure to Christ for many.  With each shoe box, Samaritan’s Purse will include child friendly literature in the language of the recipient to help introduce them to Jesus Christ.  National believers are involved in handing out these boxes and also follow up.

Out of our abundance (and even poverty), God has blessed us in a multitude of ways and means by which we might be a blessing to others at home and abroad.  Thank you for being a blessing to the nations this Christmas season through taking, filling and returning a simple shoe box.

The DEADLINE for returning boxes to Southwood is Sunday, November 14. That leaves only 2 Sundays to bring back your filled boxes, so don’t delay!
