Southwood is partnering with MTW (Mission to the World) Monterrey to see God's kingdom advanced through a church planting movement in Northern Mexico; Monterrey being the epicenter. Our team will be involved in ministry to women & children; light construction; a children's home; and medical service.
Be part of what God is doing in Monterrey; a city of over 5 million people and the cultural and business center of Northern Mexico.

Time Commitment: July 9-18, 2010
Description: Missions Ministry seeks bilingual members for verbal and written translation between Spanish and English for Southwood mission trips to Mexico.
Time Commitment: Trips are usually 1 week in duration.
Description: Gather sanctuary blankets, clean and return to sanctuary.
Time Commitment: Approximately 1 hour once per month.
Description: Using iWeb for Mac, build a web page for Southwood's Children's Ministry that will be linked to the church's web site. Work with Children's Ministry Director and Administrative Assistant for content and for input on layout and design.
Time Commitment: Looking for the build as soon as possible. Time taken to build is uncertain. After initial build, site will be maintained by staff.
Description: Help keep the Food Bank at Lincoln Village clean. The Food Bank is open on the second Tuesday morning of each month. It needs to be cleaned the week prior to its opening. Duties include vacuuming, mopping, etc.
Time Commitment: 2-3 hours once a month
Description: Prepare and cook an evening meal for 40 people (tutors, students, staff) at The Village Church kitchen.
Time Commitment: 3-4 hours on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday during the school year
Description: Tutor a child at the LINC after school program at The Village Church.
Time Commitment: 1.5 hours per week between 5pm and 6:30pm M / T / Th
Description: Tutor a child at Lincoln Elementary in North Huntsville during lunch time (10:50 am - 12:15 pm). Further screening may be required.
Time Commitment: 30 minutes per week during lunch time
Description: Being a loving adult presence among PreK & K children helping create a learning environment conducive to fun and learning. Your's is a support role to the teacher and song leader. No preparation necessary but you must be a member of Southwood.
Time Commitment: Once a month during the sermon portion of the early worship service. Commitment is through the end of May 09.
Description: In coordination with input from the nursery direction, change out the nursery bulletin board in a creative and fun way.
Time Commitment: Once per quarter. Time varies.
Description: Sit with and care for special needs children during either the Sunday School hour or late worship hour.
Time Commitment: Once a quarter from either 9:30 - 10:45am or 10:45 - 12:15pm
Description: Join Southwood's puppet ministry team "No Strings Attached" for rehearsals and performances in children's classrooms and beyond as a creative ministry venue to teach children about Christ and walking with Him. We are looking for adults and youth.
Time Commitment: Weekly rehearsals (with reasonable breaks) and monthly performances for Children's Sunday School or other venues.
Description: Be available and ready to be a substitute small group leader on a Sunday morning when regular leaders are sick or out of town. For a given Sunday, small group material will be sent to you by email.
Time Commitment: One hour on the days you serve (during the Sunday School hour).
Description: Creatively teach the Bible to children in one of our large group environments during the Sunday School hour. Curriculum or teaching resources provided. This is not your regular classroom setting. Creative communication and thinking outside the box a must for reaching and teaching kids. Great opportunity to use gifts and abilities God has given in the arts.
Time Commitment: Teach one Sunday a month during a 20 minute segment (or less) of the Sunday School hour among either 1st/2nd graders, 3rd/4th graders or 5th/6th graders. Commitment for any grade between 1st - 4th is through the end of May 09. Commitment for 5th/6th grade is through the beginning of Aug 09. Time on lesson preparation varies.
Description: These are opportunities for youth to assist adults in leading worship on Sunday mornings for children at the first part of the Sunday School hour. Support the adult leader by providing on stage, up front vocals and motions to assist kids in worship. Must be comfortable on stage, able to sing and represent Christ before kids.
Time Commitment: Each week during the beginning of the Sunday School hour through the end of May 09. There may be an occasional rehearsal with the adult leader.
Description: During the beginning of the Sunday School hour, lead children in worship through songs. Collaborate with Children's Ministry staff and coordinators for song selections and resourcing. In 3 of our 4 ministry environments, words are projected on screens and there is support with sound systems and mics. Must be comfortable on stage and able to bring children to God in worship through song and word. Ask about which age groups are available.
Also able and willing to lead a small group of supporting singers (youth) who would join you.
Time Commitment: Through the end of May 09 each Sunday during the first part of the Sunday School hour. During the 1st or 2nd worship hour for Kids Worship. Potential rehearsal time during the week might be needed at youth support singers are added.
Description: Capture video footage of various slices of Southwood's Children's Ministry for website. Film occasional footage to help enhance a children's lesson or teaching series.
Time Commitment: Involvement is occasional and dependent of the project at hand.
Description: Take digital pictures of what our children's ministry looks like on Sunday mornings and at special events. Must have own digital camera with a lens that allows for up-close photography at a distance and the ability to work in various light settings.
Time Commitment: Varies depending of events and what we are trying to capture. Involvement is occasional.
Description: Operate audio, video and light equipment in large group environments on Sunday mornings for Children's Ministry during the Sunday School hour.
Must be familiar with Mac's (MacBooks are used) or willing to learn. General understanding of how to use a sound board is helpful but will train willing learners.
Time Commitment: Weekly through the end of May 09 during the Sunday School hour. Need to be in classroom no later than 9:30am to make sure all is set, turned on and operating.
Description: With director and coordinators, help think through thematic class room decorations bases on what is being taught in a given Sunday School quarter for either PreK/K, 1st/2nd grade, 3rd/4th grade or 5th/6th grade. Works with director and coordinators in acquiring needed supplies. Decorates room by self or pull together others to help.
Time Commitment: 4 times per year. Time will vary on what goes into decorating a room.
Description: Hold, rock, play with and read books to 0-3 year olds demonstrating Christ through your presence with these nursery children.
Must be a member of Southwood to serve.
Time Commitment: One Sunday per quarter during either the early worship, Sunday School or late worship hour.
Description: Teaching a simple, creative Bible lesson to one year olds during a portion of the Sunday School hour. A curriculum is provided for you and the resources to teach it (finger puppets and other tactile visuals that are age appropriate for one year olds).
You will be part of a team of teachers that rotate throughout a given month.
Time Commitment: 2 Sundays per month through the beginning of Aug 09. Prep time per lesson will be 1 hour or less. Teaching the lesson will take 20 minutes or less.
