Anna Ministry Valentine Luncheon
On Saturday, February 13th, the Anna Ministry Valentine’s luncheon was held at the home of Bob and Lynn Frederick. Fortunately, the weather cooperated, and fourteen ladies were able to attend. During the luncheon, some of the ladies were asked how they met their husbands. Ivy Barber reminisced about the courtship she had with her husband, saying, “He was a serviceman in the Big War (WWII). He flew airplanes…And my father didn’t want me dating a serviceman, because they were always moving around. But finally because he wouldn’t stop asking, I told him to come over and meet my parents. And it happened that that day my mother had made a big pot of green beans and ham. And so I asked him if he liked green beans and he said he didn’t, but I told him he’d like my mom’s green beans. He did try them—and he ate a lot of them he liked them so much. And that really endeared him to my mom. So my dad had to like him if my mom did, and six weeks later we were married!”
Several other Southwood members came as well, bringing food and helping hands. Bob and Jenny Boerner and two of their sons came, as well as Mark and Kathy Cooper, John and Lee Baker, and Lee Seeley. After everyone had finished lunch, the Fredericks played duets and trio songs for the ladies to wrap up the afternoon. Just before leaving, the ladies had a few minutes of chatting and reminiscing and expressed their enjoyment of the time they’d had together.
