Diaconate Update

One of the Lord’s blessings during this time has been opportunities for us to love each other and our neighbors well. Many of us have had bandwidth forced on us as quite a bit of our lives have been postponed or cancelled to allow social distancing. Many of us and our neighbors have also had real hardship forced on us for the same reason. In order to connect those of us with bandwidth and those of us with need, we have set up a website (southwood.org/covidhelp) that allows us to sign up to give help or get help. This help has been given and received both within the church and to the community.

A group from Southwood and The Village Church has been distributing meals at Lee High School. Most of the slots are filled for this ministry on a regular basis. Deacon Stephen Potts reports one of the best parts of this ministry has been the opportunity to get to know other folks from Southwood and the Village Church. As we get into the summer months, this may change because the rate of meal pickups has started to decline. We will keep everyone updated on any changes.

We have also been eager to care for each other within the church. To date, we have had two requests for help through the website. I suspect that this is because we have been loving each other well and we rejoice with that. If any of us do have needs from someone to get out and get groceries or someone to talk to, please let us know. It would be a joy and privilege for the church to love you well in service.

One way we can serve each other as we prepare to begin worshiping together again is care for some of the church facilities. There will be a series of small, socially distant work sessions to help beautify the building and grounds over the next few weeks. Be on the lookout for an email with an invitation to sign up for one of these work sessions. Please continue to pray for the church and our community. We look forward to being together again and serving together to advance Christ’s Kingdom.
