Is the Church Office open?

As with many workplaces, most of our staff are increasingly working remotely during this season. On any given day, you may find a staff member in the office, but we suggest calling ahead to confirm someone’s presence. We are monitoring voicemails at the main office number (256-882-3085) as well as emails to our personal accounts and .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

What do I do if I would like to speak with a pastor or staff member?

Our pastors are available and would love to speak with you. If you are hurting or struggling during this season, please let us know! You may email any of the pastors directly or call the office (256-882-3085) to set up a conversation with one of them.

What are our plans for worship generally and Easter Week specifically?

We are continuing “online only” worship through Sunday, April 26, at this time. Easter Week services will be online only. We held a Good Friday service at 6pm Friday, April 10, and Easter Sunday service at 9:30am on April 12. Our current plans are to attempt rescheduling some of our favorite Easter celebrations (sunrise service, etc.) at a later date when we are back together in person.

Are we paying our staff and mission partners?

At present, we are paying our staff and plan to continue doing so. We are grateful that we have also been able to include our scheduled nursery workers in this as well to this point. The contributions to our mission partners occur on a quarterly basis after each quarter is completed, and we are excited to be processing those payments right now to continue supporting them as they also face unique challenges during this time. With decreased building usage and fewer ministry events, we are making some cost savings as we seek to be wise stewards. We do, however, continue to incur a large majority of our budgeted expenses.

How do I give to the church during this season?

You may still mail a check or bring it to the office and put it in the secure drop box just outside the office. If you prefer to give digitally, you may give via southwood.org/give. However, if you have not already downloaded the Southwood app, you may find this the perfect time to give it a try. Simply go to your App Store and search for Southwood Presbyterian. You will find that you are able not only to give but also to find other ways to connect and engage. If you need assistance, please contact Janice Crowson in the office (.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)). She is monitoring both phone and email.

How are we caring for our elderly/homebound members?

As this news first broke, our deacons began developing a plan to support our members classified as the most vulnerable. We know this situation is fluid and things are subject to change from day to day, but the plan we are working off of is as follows:
1. Every Southwood member that is 60 and up or homebound will receive a call from a deacon twice a week. Small groups are helping meet needs as they become known.
2. If you or someone you know has a need, click here to let us know.

How are we serving in the community during this season?

During this time of social distancing, we have witnessed a shift in how we support our local ministry partners and a rethinking of how we support our community. While many of our ministry partners have postponed or cancelled activities/programs for the foreseeable future, we can still be an agent of change in our neighborhoods. Particularly we think of first responders, healthcare workers, and others who may especially appreciate offers of assistance, prayers, and/or friendship during this time. We’ve had a great opportunity extend through the rest of April to partner with other Huntsville churches in providing lunches for students at our Huntsville City Schools. For updated ways we are serving in the Huntsville area, check southwood.org/covidhelp.

Where do I find updated resources for children while we are online only?

Our Children’s Team is using the Southwood Kids Facebook page as the primary information source right now. Different opportunities to interact are on this page each day. Weekly emails will include materials for kids to engage with worship services and for parents to engage with kids on their lessons. If you have any difficulty connecting with these resources or have other questions, contact .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Where do I find updated resources for youth while we are online only?

Our Youth Team is using the HighLifeHSV Instagram account as the primary information source right now. Info and short talks are on this page regularly. If you have any difficulty connecting with these resources or have other questions, contact .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

What other discipleship opportunities can I access during this season?

This is a great time to spend in personal Bible study while you have more time. We will also have several study groups that are meeting on Zoom, both women’s and men’s groups. A women’s study is meeting on Thursdays at 1:00pm, and men’s studies are forming as well. Zoom prayer gatherings for everyone are beginning Wednesdays at noon. Emails will keep you up to date on new opportunities. If you want to make sure you’re receiving the invitations, email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

How can I stay updated on current church communication right now?

We are sending all special announcements for this season and worship updates through the Churchwide Announcements email. If you would like to receive these emails and are not receiving them, email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) to get added to the list. We will also update this page and the southwood.org/covidhelp page as we have new information.
