COVID-19: Get Help, Give Help

Get help.

There will be many needs in our church family and community during this season. Needs could include help getting food, household necessities, or childcare among other things. If you have a need or know another person in need, we would love to know.
Click here to let us know of a need.

If you have trouble with the form or have further questions, call the church office at 256-882-3085. Voicemails left here will be monitored regularly. You can email us at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Give help.

Many of you have been asking how we can best love our neighbors during this season. Specific opportunities will be posted below as we become aware of the needs. It would also be helpful to know if you are able and willing to help meet needs like running errands for “high-risk”* people, providing food service, or providing childcare.
Click here to let us know your availability.

1. Pray. Pray. Pray. Prayer is the work of the Church. It is weak people prevailing upon a strong Father to do mighty things in, through, and in spite of us.

2. We encourage everyone to check on your own neighbors, particularly those who are “high-risk.”* Be the Church on your street.

3. Southwood is partnering with other local churches to help provide lunches to Huntsville City Schools students who typically get meals at school. If you would like to help package, distribute, and/or transport food, please let us know through the GIVE HELP form above. *** UPDATED NEED: Southwood is distributing lunches at Lee High School Monday, Wednesday, Friday through the rest of April. Click here to sign up for a date to help. ***

4. Ongoing volunteer needs at Manna House (2110 Memorial Pkwy SW) for low-risk volunteers only are 3:00-6:30pm Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. You will be serving food to or carrying food for low-income neighbors.

5. Food donations are critical for the long-term support of these food ministries. Highest priority needs are apples, bananas, peanut butter, sandwich bread, fruit cups, pudding cups, luncheon meats, nutri-grain bars, and sandwich-sized ziplock bags. These may be dropped off at the Southwood Office or at The Rock Family Worship Center (3401 Holmes Ave) Monday-Thursday 9-5.

* “High-risk” is defined as anyone over 65, with weakened immune or respiratory systems, or experiencing illness. “Low-risk” is defined as anyone under 65 with no symptoms of illness or known exposure to virus.
