The Greatest Story Ever Told

The Greatest Story Ever Told

It’s no surprise why our Southwood Kids’ environments are named Discover, Explore, and Journey. In August, our Southwood Kids embarked upon an exciting adventure through God’s big story: His plan to save sinners with His Son, Jesus. And, because the story of Jesus did not begin in a manager, we ventured into the greatest story ever told where all good stories start…in the beginning.
In Genesis, we learned that God created the universe ex nihilo, or “out of nothing” and that all of creation began with a word. When God spoke, it happened: light, land, sky, stars, plants, and animals. God made them all, and they were good. Creation was perfect, just as God intended. We also discovered how quickly sin would enter the world and affect everything. Yet, God already knew and had a plan to show His grace to people through His Son (2 Tim. 1:9), to rescue and restore.

We trudged through the despair caused by sin and unearthed how it separates us from God - a big problem in need of a big solution. And as our trek grew despondent, we learned that God did not leave us without hope. As the children became increasingly aware of the bad news—that we are all sinners from birth—we rejoiced with them over the good news: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” (1 Tim. 1:15). God gave us HOPE.
With fresh wind in our sails, we cruised through the stories of Noah, the Tower of Babel, and Job, deepening our understanding of the importance of obedience and faithfulness to God. We took rest in the revelation that we serve a merciful God whose plan to save us was and is still in motion, despite the enemy’s best efforts to thwart that plan.

Now, at the conclusion of the first stretch of our journey, our Southwood Kids are beginning to realize that Hope is around every corner - He has always been, since the very beginning - God’s plan to redeem us through His Son, Jesus - the greatest story ever told.
In the coming months, we will meet Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph as we discover more of God’s amazing plan for each of us! We look forward to the hope-full truths we will encounter about God and His great big, amazing Story!
