Diaconate Update

This spring, Southwood’s deacons have spent considerable time working with the Women’s Ministry discussing what it looks like to partner with the ladies of Southwood in service.  One area that we are particularly excited about is a ministry of visitation and care for some of Southwood’s senior members who are not able to get out very often. Marie Hill and Joey Powers have been organizing the team and have done an excellent job helping us to love this particular part of our body. If you are interested in getting to know our senior members more, please contact Joey Powers (.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)) and he will get you plugged in. This is a great opportunity to spend time with some dear saints while also getting to experience the privilege of caring for the Bride of Christ.

Additionally, Martha Brady and Don Hachen, along with several additional ladies of Southwood, have been looking at our church building and grounds with an eye toward beautification. In a town full of engineers who often look at function over form, the ladies of Southwood have been invaluable helpers in showing the Deacons how Southwood can extend hospitality to our visitors and community through our facilities. We are tentatively planning a work day for this fall to spend time together making our building an extension of expressing grace. We will communicate the specific plans for this work day once plans are solidified.

Finally, as has been announced previously, Southwood was able to sell the White House property for an official sales price of $407,000. The sale closed in early May, and we were able to take the $370,000 we received after all associated fees and apply it against the church’s debt, which is now reduced below $1.3 million. In fact, as we continue making the same monthly payments over the next five years, the $370,000 up-front payment actually impacts the debt by over $500,000, so we are grateful for God’s kindness in this provision at this time. Join us in thanking God and praying for his continued provision for our church.
